After Graduating from Utah State University, Charles Andersen, earned his medical degree at the University of Utah where he also completed an internship and one year of Surgical Training. He then entered the military where he completed his surgical residency at Madigan Army Medical Center and a Vascular Surgery fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He remained in the military where his positions included program director in General Surgery and Chief of the Department of Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center for 20 years. After retirement from the Army he remained at Madigan Army Medical Center as a Civilian Physician. He has spoken nationally and internationally on Vascular Surgery and Wound Care. He has 95 peer reviewed publications. Currently he is Chief of the Vascular/Endovascular/Limb preservation Service and Medical Director of the Wound Care Clinic at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma Washington.
Barbara J. Aung, DPM, FAPWCA, CWS, DABPOPPM
Dr. Aung graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. She then attended and graduated form the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa with a Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine in 1990. Following postgraduate training Dr Aung established and has maintained a private practice for over 19 years in Tucson, Arizona with a focus in care of the lower extremity, advanced wound care/limb preservation, and amputation prevention in the diabetic patient population.
Along with her credentials as a podiatric physician and surgeon, Dr. Aung also is a Board Certified Wound Care Specialist (CWS)-(American Academy of Wound Management), a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association, as well as a Diplomat, of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. She currently serves as a consultant and staff member of a number hospital based wound care centers in the Tucson and Southern Arizona. She is also active in numerous clinical research studies related to wound care and advancements in this field and serves as a consultant to a number of product/device companies serving the wound care industry/arena.
Dr Aung recently completed a 6-year term as a member of the CDC/NIH National Diabetes Education Program PPOD work group representing the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Podiatric Medicine Profession.
Dr. Aung is a member of The University of Arizona Telemedicine Virtual Diabetes Center of Excellence providing both clinical education to medical professionals as well as patient evaluation, disease management, advance wound care and amputation prevention through the center’s Telemedicine network to remote and rural clinics throughout Arizona.
Dr. Aung served as the Chair/Lead Trainer for the State of Arizona’s Department of Health Services Diabetes Prevention & Control Program Amputation Risk Reduction Project that advanced and increased preventive screenings in both primary care and specialty clinics throughout Arizona. She also serves as a consultant in diabetic foot care and amputation prevention on local, regional & national levels for Native American, Community & Rural Health clinics in addressing the lower extremity care needs in the diabetic patient population.
Dr. Aung is a contributing author for numerous publications providing guidelines of lower extremity management in the diabetic patient population for clinicians, is as well a published author of numerous articles in the field of podiatric medicine, advanced wound care, disease management, practice management and likewise presents nationally on the aforementioned topics.
Desmond P. Bell, Jr., DPM, CWS, FACCWS
Dr. Desmond Bell is a Board Certified Wound Specialist (CWS)-(American Academy of Wound Management), and a Fellow of the American College of Certified Wound Specialists. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Wound Management.

Dr. Bell is the founder of the Limb Salvage Institute/Wound Care on Wheels,LLC, a service providing wound care to patients in the hospital, home or long term care settings. The Limb Salvage Institute/Wound Care on Wheels evolved from his previous practice model, the First Coast Diabetic Foot & Wound Management Center, a free standing outpatient wound management center. He also previously served as the assistant Medical Director of the Wound Management Center of Jacksonville, FL.
Dr. Bell is a graduate of Tulane University and the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He served his residency training programs at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia and Delaware Valley Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. While at the VA, Dr. Bell received a Commendation in part for his role in wound care. He served as chief Podiatric Surgical resident and was actively involved in the Wound Care Center at Delaware Valley.
He is a frequent lecturer and author on the subject of wound care, peripheral arterial disease and diabetes.
Dr. Bell has lectured on behalf of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida, the American Diabetes Association, the University of North Florida, the Jacksonville Area Diabetes Educators, the American Professional Wound care Association, the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Florida Podiatric Medical Association, the Podiatry Institute, New Cardiovascular Horizons and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Evidence-based Management of Chronic Wounds program. He is a member of the Speaker's Bureau of Organogenesis and serves as a consultant with Biolife, LLC, Libertas Health Company, LLC and LifeCell.
He has been in private practice in Jacksonville, Florida since 1997 and is a staff member at Memorial Hospital of Jacksonville, St. Luke's Hospital, St. Vincent's Medical Center and Specialty Hospital of Jacksonville. Dr. Bell served on the Medical Executive Committee at Specialty Hospital for two years and is active in the Wound Management program there.
De Anna M. Bell, MSN, FNP-BC, CWS, FACCWS
De Anna is dually board certified and serves in multiple roles within our center; She is a Certified Wound Specialist- (American Academy of Wound Management) and is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She is both a provider and serves as the administrator of the Limb Salvage Institute/Wound Care on Wheels, LLC. She is the co-founder of the First Coast Diabetic Wound Management Center and developed the clinical program for Wound Care on Wheels, in 2004.
De Anna graduated from the University of North Florida's Family Nurse Practitioner Program and received a Master of science degree in Nursing in April of 2004. She received her Bachelors degree in Nursing from Thomas Jefferson University and her RN degree from Frankford Hospital School of Nursing (affiliated with the Pennsylvania State University) in Philadelphia. She was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau international honor society of nursing and graduated Summa Cum Laude from her undergraduate programs and was a Scholarship Recipient of the "Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida".
De Anna provides Nurse Practitioner services through Wound Care on Wheels. She provides home wound management services to the homebound members of our communities and will be providing screening services for peripheral arterial disease and complications from diabetes as well as wound care as part of our community outreach program.
Cheryl M. Bongiovanni, PhD, RVT, CWS, FASA
Doctor Cheryl Bongiovanni graduated from the New Jersey University of Medicine and Dentistry in 1975 with a doctorate in cardiovascular physiology. Since that time, Dr. Bongiovanni has worked in the fields of extrarenal organ transplantation, vascular surgery, noninvasive diagnosis of vascular diseases and , most recently, chronic wound care. She is the author or coauthor of 15 books, over 100 peer reviewed papers and countless presentations. Dr. Bongiovanni is currently the director of vascular laboratories and wound clinics for Lake District Hospital in Lakeview, Oregon.
Yazan Khatib, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FABVM
A man whose passion for limb salvage and amputation prevention is described as infectious by all who know him, Dr. Khatib is director of Limb Salvage & Endovascular Interventions & co-founder of First Coast Cardiovascular Institute.
He graduated from Damascus University with a rating of "excellence" & was recruited to the prestigious Cleveland Clinic for his Medical Residency. He then went to Loyola University in Chicago for a cardiology fellowship. Followed one year of interventional cardiology training at the Indian Heart Institute, where he had the privilege of working with some of the most renowned experts in the field. He then returned to Chicago for a dedicated additional training in the field of Endovascular Interventions.
During his five year practice in Indianapolis, he established himself as one of the leading experts in the different treatment modalities of vascular disease, his practice then was one of few across the nation, proctoring other physicians in this evolving field, he also was a clinical instructor at Indiana University & Rodebush V.A. Hospital. He then moved to Jacksonville, FL where he co-founded First Coast Cardiovascular Institute (FCCI). In the last 5 years, FCCI has become a regional referral center for the difficult Endovascular pts, and has collaborated very closely with the local leaders in wound care to prevent numerous amputations, (well over 200). Dr. Khatib has also great interest in clinical research, being a part of many clinical trials.
Guy Pupp, DPM
Dr. Guy Pupp’s career which spans over 30 years has helped revolutionize foot and ankle care, especially for hose with Diabetes. He is a Section Editor for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery and has been involved in Residency and Fellowship training of over 150 physicians. He was recently named one of America’s 175 Most Influential Podiatrists by Podiatry Management Magazine. Dr. Pupp is very involved with the American Diabetes Association named to the Board of Directors for the Michigan Leadership Council. He has published 35 papers and has lectured both nationally and internationally. One of his studies over 10 years ago advocated a Team Approach to Diabetic Limb Salvage, now an accepted norm. He has studied external fixation technologies both in the U.S. and Europe utilizing their technique in complex Limb Savage cases. Dr. Pupp is co-inventor of an External Ring Fixator, the E-Z Frame, with significant improvements over contemporary devices.
Robert J. Snyder, DPM, CWS
As a member of the medical advisory board for National Healing Corporation, Dr. Robert Snyder serves as a resource to the medical staff of the company's Wound Healing Centers throughout the U.S.
A podiatric surgeon, Snyder maintains a private practice and serves as medical director of the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center at University Hospital in Tamarac, Florida. He is also the clinical director of the Wound Care Center Northwest Medical Center in Margate, Florida.
Snyder is board certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is also a board certified wound specialist by the American Academy of Wound Management and a member of the board of directors of that organization.
Snyder is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American Professional Wound Care Association and the College of Certified Wound Specialists. He is a member of the board of directors of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care and was recognized as one of the "Top 100 most influential podiatrists in the United States" by Podiatry Management Magazine.
A frequent contributor for many medical journals, Snyder is consulting editor for Podiatry Management Magazine and a member of the editorial advisory board of Ostomy Wound Management. He has authored more than 75 papers for peer-reviewed and trade journals on topics relating to wound management and limb salvage.
Snyder received his doctorate of podiatric medicine from New York College of Podiatric Medicine, and he completed his residency at Jewish Memorial Hospital in New York City. Snyder also attended the Wound Healing Summer School at Oxford University in England and is currently pursuing a master of science in Wound Healing from the University of Wales School of Medicine at Cardiff University, U.K. He holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Long Island University.
Valerie Sullivan, PT, MS, CWS
Val Sullivan is a physical therapist and a board Certified Wound Specialist through the American Academy of Wound Management. She is the Clinical Manager of Advanced Wound Care Services and Hyperbaric Medicine at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, FL. A clinician and educator in Wound Management for the past 15 years, Val has lectured and presented on local, regional and national levels as well as publishing articles on wound care and education.
As a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and it's Section on Clinical Electrophysiology and Wound Management, Val is on the Consulting Group for Hooked on Evidence Integumentary Clinical Scenarios and the Practice Chair for the Wound Management Special Interest Group. She has been an active member of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care, serving on the Quality of Care Task Force. She is also a member of multiple Clinical Advisory Boards and is a Founding Editorial Board member for the journal Today's Wound Clinic.
An unabashed enophile, Val co-founded the Wound Care Wine Club to assist Wound Care professionals in the North Florida/South Georgia area with networking, education and marketing.
Craig Walker, MD
Dr. Walker is a native of Bourg, Louisiana and a graduate of Nicholls State University, Thibodaux. He attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He received his postgraduate training in cardiology at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans and completed a research and teaching fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston, before returning to Houma to establish Cardiovascular Institute of the South, where he remains its medical director.
Dr. Walker was named one of the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce's Ten Outstanding Young Americans for 1992. He has published hundreds of articles and many book chapters. He was a first tier investigator for most new interventional devices.
He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Cardiovascular Interventionists, the International College of Angiology, the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Walker performs live case demonstrations throughout the world on interventional techniques.
Stephanie Wu, DPM
Dr. Wu is Associate Professor of Surgery and Associate Professor, Center for Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, and Director of Medical Education and Outreach at the Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research (CLEAR). She earned a Masters Degree in Biomedical Science and Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) at the Barry University School of Graduate Medical Sciences in Miami Shores, Florida. Dr. Wu graduated from the INOVA Fairfax Hospital Podiatric Residency Program where she received extensive training in all aspects of the foot and ankle including Lower Extremity Reconstruction and Diabetic Limb Salvage at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Upon graduation, she bacame a Fellow at the Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research (CLEAR) at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
Dr. Wu has won numerous awards and accolades including American Podiatric Medical Association's Rising Star Award, Dr. Marvin Steinberg Distinguished Podiatric Alumni Award, Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine, the Deans Award and Lawrence R. Medoff Award for Outstanding Performance in Research, Teaching, and Clinical Care Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, and was listed as one of the 150 Most Influential Podiatrists in America by Podiatry Management. Her areas of research include assessing risk factors for lower extremity complications in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus, as well as diagnosing and preventing those complications, managing them, and treating them in a variety of manners, including surgery. She is currently serving as an investigator in four research projects in those areas. Dr Wu is a reviewer for Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, Ostomy/Wound Management, Diabetic Medicine, Diabetes Care, Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism, Therapy, The Journal for Diabetes and its Complications, Foot and Ankle Quarterly, and Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice.
