    ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

    • Membership is free and open to anyone interested in learning and actively participating in the organization in or outside of the industry, including students. Meetings are to be sponsored by our corporate members who take turns in hosting meetings.

    • Content presented during meetings must be evidence based.

    • The SALSAL forum is not to be used for overt promotion of products or services, nor is it intended in any way to create financial gain for any sponsor or member.

    • A collegial atmosphere where all members have an opportunity for input and involvement should be encouraged.

    • The SALSAL forum must remain non-adversarial; our members must function as “a resource for each other” in order to promote our mission and achieve our goals.

    • New chapters founding members will assume the responsibilities of recruiting members, and creating meeting agendas.

    • The SALSAL Website will be updated regularly to include information, news and individual Chapter happenings.

    • The SALSAL National organization will assist Chapters in e-mailing invitations to announce upcoming meetings or events

    • A database will be maintained by our central office, which will also provide e-mail notification of upcoming meetings and SALSAL news. All members must sign in and provide contact information at the time of each meeting. It will be the responsibility of each chapter to forward all member contact information to the national chapter after each meeting.

    • Membership should come from the following areas: academia, advanced nurse practitioners, case managers, certified nursing assistants, dietary, laypersons, nursing, physicians, podiatric physicians, physical therapists, physicians assistants, students and corporate members. In short, anyone with a real interest in learning and improving the quality of care of patients with wounds and their underlying medical conditions, and P.A.D.

    MEETINGS

    • It is recommended that meetings be held at least bimonthly. This is important to reinforce the goals and accomplishments of the previous meetings. An agenda must be created for each meeting and should be presented in PowerPoint format at the start for each meeting.

    • A review of our mission statement should always be included at the start of each meeting.

    • A brief history of our organization should be presented to inform new members of our purpose and to welcome them.

    • Each agenda should include a “journal club” where members may share case studies on PowerPoint presentations.

    • Each meeting agenda should also include a presentation on a “Main Topic”. Examples of a main topic would include a 30–45 minute presentation on any relevant topics, such as technology (dressing selection, P.A.D., skin substitutes, negative pressure wound therapy), diabetes related topics, pressure ulcers, lymphedema, MRSA, etc.

    • It is recommended that chapters “build from within” and presentations by members are not only encouraged, but are recommended. As each chapter grows, occasional outside lecturers may be invited, at the expense of the sponsoring corporate member. Again, there must be no overt promotion of products.

    • The sponsoring corporate members will be given the opportunity to be recognized at the start of any meeting they would be sponsoring. It is recommended that the chapter leader recognize the sponsoring member by way of introduction at the beginning of the meeting, with the opportunity given for the sponsoring member to give a brief description of their product or service. Example: “Hello, my name is Joe Smith, I am the local representative from XYZ, the manufacturer of the ABC Device, used by physicians to open calcified arteries in the lower extremities. If anyone would like to learn me about XYZ or the ABC, I will be available to answer your questions at the end of tonight’s meeting. Thank you.....”

    • It is recommended that a centrally located, moderately priced restaurant be utilized for meetings.

    • Members should introduce themselves at each meeting and should wear name tags to identify themselves.

    • Members who have interceded or been responsible for improving wound care on a patient, or have promoted our cause, should be recognized during meetings. Recognition may come in the form of praise, which may also include a certificate and a letter to their employer, noting the positive difference their actions have made.
